TOWN OF HICKORY CREEK

Town of Hickory Creek

Hickory Creek encompasses 15 square miles, the largest landmass of the Lake Cities. Located on one of Texas' most popular lakes, the Town of Hickory Creek is a generous blend of parks and nature trails, bustling subdivisions and family farms, boat ramps and businesses. Residents enjoy the combination of a relaxed, small town atmosphere and a thriving business district. Just 45 minutes north of downtown Dallas, Hickory Creek is a progressive area, yet maintains its picturesque surroundings.

Our population has grown from 219 at our incorporation in 1963 to our 2005 census of 3,044. The availability of residential housing has also grown in the last several years. The most recent development added the subdivisions of Shore Haven, Lakeview, and Glenview. Residential growth anticipated in the next several years could almost double our current population.

Hickory Creek is a general law city governed by a mayor and five council members. The Town Administrator is responsible for supervising government operations and implementing the policies adopted by the council. Other key staff members include Chief of Police, Director of Public Services, and Town Secretary. The Lake Cities Fire Department provides fire protection.

A volunteer Parks Board has worked diligently throughout the years to develop several parks within the town. In 1998, the dream of many Hickory Creek residents came true when Tanglewood Park was equipped with playground equipment, benches and tables. Point Vista Park, another city-leased U.S. Army Corps Park, along with Arrowhead Park, are equipped with boat ramps.

Commercial development has also exploded, which has helped Hickory Creek maintain one of the lowest property tax rates in the Lake Cities area. Hickory Creek is now home to Rave Motion Pictures, Wal-Mart, the new Cornelius Town Center, McDonalds, Texas Land & Cattle Company, Chili’s, Starbucks, Sherwin-Williams, Blockbuster, Domino’s Pizza, Sonic, Children’s Lighthouse, The Primrose School, Vista Academies, Pappa’s Homestyle Restaurant and many more. Retail growth is continuing with new development along FM 2181 and the I-35 corridor. The new Lake Lewisville Toll Bridge and proposed light rail will also bring additional growth in the next several years.
